Badudel days
I had my baduy days when I was younger. I was in Grade 5 when I got infatuated to Randy Santiago. He was a funny guy with a good voice and made Lunch Date fun to watch. And of course, the shades made me more excited. I had 2 scrap books filled with his pictures that I cut from magazines and newspapers. During weekends, I was hogging the radio waiting for ‘Hindi magbabago’ to play. I kept on switching channels just to hear the song. (My mom didn’t buy the cassette tape even if I repeatedly requested for it.). In college, I found a friend who ‘lurve’ Randy Santiago also. We became good friends, and every Saturday I would attempt to go to Broadway with her just to watch him. But I wasn’t able to go with her because I was stuck with our typing class.
In high school, I had a huge crush on Robin Padilla. When his movie ‘Maging sino ka man’ came out, my friends decided to cut class just to watch the first day of showing at SM City. We were there at 10am, queuing just to get the valuable tickets. I’ve never seen droves of people at the cinema and it freaked me out. But I didn’t let the feeling get into me, I had to see Robin Padilla. As we were going out of the cinema, there were cameras around interviewing people about the movie. I was so scared that I might get caught on TV because my mom had no idea that I had cut class. The throngs of people grabbing the microphone for validation made it more difficult to go out. And at one point, a guy shouted ‘si Robin Padilla’, and hell broke loose. Women started screaming, calling out Robin’s name and I thought there’s going to be stampede as people rushed out to see him. That was the first and last Robin movie I saw.
